NIAMS Launches Image Database
The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) has launched an image database ( http://images.niams.nih.gov ) that will be available online to researchers, reporters and the public. The database is composed of photographs of NIAMS scientists, labs and staff, and seeks to "tell the story" of NIAMS research through pictures. The database also includes illustrations, diagrams and drawings depicting areas of NIAMS research. The images are in the public domain and are not subject to any copyright restrictions.
An abstract accompanies each image and includes specific information about the equipment and scientific process depicted in each photo, as well as the names of the researchers. The database is searchable in a variety of fields, including name, graphic type, location, equipment and keyword. Users can view or download the images in low or medium resolution, and can save them to a "lightbox," an individualized collection of images.
